Information
We will start our introduction to ski touring or splitboarding at the top of the Aiguille du midi.
After making our way down the impressive midi ridge roped up, we will put skis and boards on for a fantastic 800 metre descent until we reach the foot of the pointe Adolphe Rey. From there, we will put on skins, and after going through the different techniques for skinning up, we will start the vertical ascent of 370 m to reach the col d’Entrêves (3527m). From there we will have two choices: skiing the classical Vallée Blanche down to Chamonix or skiing down to a plateau (520m descent) before skinning back up to the foot of the Dent du Géant (the Giant’s tooth). After a well-deserved picnic, we will begin one of the most beautiful descents of the valley. This original itinerary is called the “vallée noire” and is for skiers who wish to get away from the crowd. More in the wild than the classic vallée blanche, the vallée noire takes you along the right bank of the Glacier du Géant. If the snow conditions are good, we will ski all the way down to Chamonix. 22km of descent for just 900m of ascent, not bad!
Bonus features: A unique landscape, one of the most beautiful runs in the world! Retreat is possible at any time if you are tired.
This itinerary is in the Aiguilles Rouges mountain range, in the Flégère area. From the top of the Floria button lift, we will traverse towards the NE and then go around the South East ridge of the Aiguilles Crochues. From there, skins on, we will head up to the famous Lac Blanc from where you can clearly see the Col du Belvedère straight above (2780 m).
We will reach the col by skinning up a wide gully. The descent from the Col down the NW couloir requires a 50 m abseil in order to avoid the 50° slope that is just at the start. The belay is at the start of the couloir. After the abseil, you can enjoy the beautiful descent that the old Belvedère glacier has sculpted into wide regular slopes to finally reach the vallon de Bérard where the snow is often excellent because it is North facing. A lovely run through the and we end up at the Buet village, comfortably sat in a deckchair enjoying a beer! Bonus features: A wide exploration of the Aiguilles Rouges and a breathtaking view of the Mont-Blanc. Lovely long wide slopes of powder snow. The powder stays intact a long time after the last snowfall.
